I work in a Visual Resources Center that’s located in an academic department. While we work very closely with the campus library system, we’re an entirely separate outfit. My unit spends a lot of time scanning and cataloging images from library books and making them available in a password protected database that’s not searchable from the Library’s OPAC. I often think about what else we can be doing to make users aware that images have been digitized: should we put notes in the catalog record to see our Luna database? should we figure out a way to have our Luna database searchable in the library OPAC so that researchers can find images, books, articles, etc. all in one search?
