I am very much interested in DH. I have been advocating for it in our Art History department at Fordham University.

Comment on Bibliographic metadata & art by Bridget Madden http://arlisnavra2016.thatcamp.org/2016/03/05/bibliographic-metadata-art/#comment-195 Mon, 07 Mar 2016 16:09:13 +0000 http://arlisnavra2016.thatcamp.org/?p=284#comment-195 I think this is a really interesting topic. I work in a Visual Resources Center that’s located in an academic department. While we work very closely with the campus library system, we’re an entirely separate outfit. My unit spends a lot of time scanning and cataloging images from library books and making them available in a password protected database that’s not searchable from the Library’s OPAC. I often think about what else we can be doing to make users aware that images have been digitized: should we put notes in the catalog record to see our Luna database? should we figure out a way to have our Luna database searchable in the library OPAC so that researchers can find images, books, articles, etc. all in one search?

Comment on Session Proposal: Data Sources for DH by Ballard4 http://arlisnavra2016.thatcamp.org/2016/02/15/session-proposal-data-sources-for-dh/#comment-194 Fri, 04 Mar 2016 19:00:28 +0000 http://arlisnavra2016.thatcamp.org/?p=253#comment-194 Hi, Margaret! The first part of your comment about platforms and tools, may be more in like with the post: Idea: Exploring Collection Data?. The second part, about using digitized texts as data, is more what I had in mind for this data sourcing panel. Would you be interested in sharing the ways you create/find/use digitized texts if this panel is accepted?

Comment on Session Proposal: Data Sources for DH by Margaret Ericson http://arlisnavra2016.thatcamp.org/2016/02/15/session-proposal-data-sources-for-dh/#comment-193 Fri, 04 Mar 2016 17:45:20 +0000 http://arlisnavra2016.thatcamp.org/?p=253#comment-193 Hi. My name is Margaret Ericson, Arts Librarian at Colby College. Maybe this is really basic, but I would like to know if others have established a “Best Practices” framework for digital humanities art projects. This relates to Project Management, but really is a product emanating from successful projects, in terms of practices.

I would like to know what software or hosting platforms work better for art DH content. What’s a good “getting started platform”. How does one manage image rights/copyright for public web content. Is it out on the website for view, or documented in some other way.

I am interested in mapping applications and also knowing more about how to use digitized texts as data.

Thanks.

Comment on Introduction/Blank Canvas by amerredyth http://arlisnavra2016.thatcamp.org/2016/02/16/introductionblank-canvas/#comment-191 Wed, 02 Mar 2016 06:20:22 +0000 http://arlisnavra2016.thatcamp.org/?p=256#comment-191 Hi Annie,

My name is Athea Merredyth, also a member of ARLIS, and currently jobs in the digital humanities at universities. I recently graduated from the University of Washington LIS program. During my courses I took an inspiring course on digital humanities that changed my focus in the LIS field. This course allowed me to see the value in developing digital projects for cultural heritage sites. The instructor helped us become comfortable with digital tools as a way to further develop research questions and another way to explore information. I’m happy to share more about my course experience with you. Looking forward to meeting you in person!

Data sourcing/mining is always a big question mark in any idea I have. I would love to see how others approach it.

Comment on Linked data for cultural heritage metadata by Millie Fullmer http://arlisnavra2016.thatcamp.org/2016/02/12/linked-data-for-cultural-heritage-metadata/#comment-189 Fri, 19 Feb 2016 20:12:21 +0000 http://arlisnavra2016.thatcamp.org/?p=190#comment-189 Hi Emilee,

Our Visual Resources Center at Vanderbilt University is also dealing with these very issues, and our homegrown digital assets management system “dimli” recently partnered with the Getty’s LOD vocabularies using RDF and SPARQL.

We are asking questions about viability (triple stores are $$$), whether to point to Getty RDF or save it locally (think Government shutdown and no LC vocals) to name a few!

I have a poster on said topic for the conference, and would be very interested in contributing to a workshop at ThatCamp too.

Millie
